Resistance welding

PEX is using resistance welding for joining metal parts mainly based on resistance spot welding. The pointed tips of the electrodes are applying opposite forces to the metal parts. The weld is realized by conducting strong current through this metal combination to heat up and finally melt the metals at the localized electrode positions. Resistance welding is a commonly used standard process in the automotive industry.

Based on the nature of the joint and the product requirements another joining technology such as ultrasonic welding might be more suitable to meet high-volume, high-quality expectations. PEX can support both welding technologies to meet future automotive trends for hybrid- and electric vehicles.
